Player of the Round: Callum Harriott (Colchester United)

The U’s narrowly avoided a shock exit at the hands of Altringham in the second round, and that was largely down to crucial goals from the former England Under-19 winger.

On loan from Charlton, the wide man initially pulled Colchester back on level terms on 14 minutes with a goal that started with him winning the ball off Robins defender Scott Leather. Harriott then played a neat one-two with team-mate Marvin Sordell before comfortably slotting past goalkeeper Tim Deasy to make it 1-1

The 21-year old then popped up with his match winning second goal three minutes into added on time in the second half, bringing the ball down on the outside of the box, taking it inside with a great touch before unleashing a right foot shot that was too powerful for Deasy to stop.

Harriott has scored seven goals for Colchester since his loan switch from Charlton

Team of the Round: Northwich Victoria

Honourable mentions must go to Salford City and Whitehawk for securing replays against league opponents, but the award goes to the Vics for their performance against League Two high flyers Northampton.

You would never have known 91 places separated the Northern Premier Division 1 North side from their opponents, as they stepped up to the mark away from home at Sixfields. They were worth their half time lead through Jimmy Ball’s 44th minute volley, with Richard Bennett adding to it in the second half in a game where they shone against their football league opposition.

However, it wasn’t to be for the lowest ranked side in the competition, as three late goals in four minutes was enough for The Cobblers to make it through to round three with a 3-2 win.

Goal of the Round: Conor Grant (Doncaster Rovers)
