FA Cup semi-final: Two players Tottenham must give a chance to

Tottenham come into perhaps their most important match of the season so far as they face Premier League leaders Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup under the arch at Wembley Stadium.

Spurs, who have been undoubtedly the best side in the country over previous weeks, will know that whilst the clash can have no mathematically bearing on the Premier League title race, witch Chelsea having faltered to bring the gap between the two London rivals at the top down to just four points, a win could well crack Antonio Conte’s side ahead of the run-in.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side know full-well the pressures of a title race after effectively the same group of players fell late on last season to allow Leicester City their historic title, with a loss at Stamford Bridge the final nail in the coffin of the north Londoner’s hopes last season.

With that in mind, this evening’s clash is a must win for Spurs, however, it is on stages like this that a player’s career can be made, and there are a few in the Tottenham ranks who could do with such a performance.

Here are TWO players Pochettino should hand a chance to at Wembley…

Eric Dier

There has been plenty of speculation over the future of the England international, with the signing of Victor Wanyama last summer having pushed him down the pecking order in the midfield this season.

The absence of the former Southampton midfielder in recent weeks has allowed Dier to return to his favoured position, however, with the Kenyan set to return today he could well be out of the limelight again.

To say that would be harsh on Dier is an understatement. The former Sporting Lisbon man has been fantastic under Pochettino, and the rumours linking Jose Mourinho with a move for the 24-year-old show just how valuable he is. Dier deserves the chance under the arch.

Vincent Janssen

Before you start spouting expletives at this suggestion, just wait. Of course Harry Kane has to start in a game of this magnitude, however, should the opportunity present itself to Mauricio Pochettino, Janssen more than deserves a chance.

The summer signing is far from living up to his potential, however, with recent goals against Millwall and then Bournemouth last weekend, the Dutchman is beginning to show some form – Wembley could be just the stage he needs to kick start his Spurs career.
