Factfile: Liverpool hero, Luis Suarez

Liverpool legend Luis Suarez turns 30 today, so without further ado, Happy Birthday from everyone at Shoot!

The now-Barcelona hitman became an icon at Liverpool during his three year stay on Merseyside, scoring a whopping 82 goals in 133 appearances, winning the League Cup in doing so and taking Bredan Rodgers’ side closer to the Premier League title than ever before.

The 90-cap Ajax international has gone on to enjoy unparalleled success since making the move to Barcelona, scoring 103 goals for the Catalan giants, in just 123 outings.

Having penned a new deal at the Nou Camp this season, fans of the Spanish champions will expect to see even more outstanding performances in the years to come.

His scoring record speaks for himself and his controversial antics are well documented. However, in order to mark his big three-oh we here at Shoot! Towers have picked out some lesser known facts about the Anfield icon.

The Barcelona striker shares his name with Spanish legend, Luis Suarez, who also played for Barcelona as well as Inter Milan between 1950 and 1970, notching up three Serie A titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups in nine seasons with the Nerazzurri.

Anfield in the family forever

The former Liverpool No.7 had his first child in August 2010, a daughter. The striker and his partner named their child Delfina, an anagram of the Reds’ famous home, Anfield.

Local rivals

Luis Suarez had better goals per game average than Manchester United in the Premier League campaign of 2013-14, in which they went agonisingly close to the Premier League title.

Meant to be

Suarez was born in Salto, Uruguay, in 1987 and moved to Montevideo at the age of seven.

Montevideo is the home of another Liverpool FC, Liverpool Futbol Club, established in 1915 and influenced by their Premier League namesake.

Change of career?

Whilst the Uraguayan is fabled for his talent with a ball at his feet, the forward could well forge a career in advertising.

During his time with Ajax, the Barca hitman featured in an advert for Dutch hearing aids!
