Gareth Southgate picked up three points in his first game in interim charge of England after his side easily got the better of Malta on Saturday.
First half goals from Daniel Sturridge and Dele Alli were enough to see off the 176th ranked side – a result which sees England top their World Cup 2018 qualifying group with two wins from two games.
The Three Lions beat Slovakia 1-0 in Sam Allardyce’s one and only game in charge last month, and will go into Tuesday’s game in Slovenia with high hopes of registering a third straight win.
However, despite the win, many England fans took to Twitter to express their views on Saturday’s game, with captain Wayne Rooney coming in for criticism after a disappointing performance in the England midfield…

It was another poor performance tonight; his legs weren't there. Time for @WayneRooney to hang up his international boots? #ENGMAL

Wayne Rooney should never play for #Eng again. Thought he'd flourish today but it's obvious he's holding them back. Awful performance.

However, many were stunned that the Manchester United man, who has scored 53 goals in 117 caps for his country, was jeered by some in the Wembley crowd…
Can't believe some of the England fans were actually booing Rooney last night.. That's not gonna help him get back on form is it?

@WayneRooney ashamed to be an England fan at this time, All time outfield player and top goalscorer for country and boo'd.. #disrespectful!

Cannot believe for a second that fans booed @WayneRooney

Overall though, many were happy with England’s first half display, although bemoaned a flat second half performance at Wembley…
England playing some quality stuff first half. May only be against Malta but some great, quick passing moves. Rooney weak link.

Good 1st half by #England but very flat 2nd period against #Malta. Southgate brought on Vardy & Rashford but no urgency #englandvmalta
