FAWSL2 Round-Up: Sheffield FC Ladies ease past Watford Ladies, plus England EURO 2017 preview

Goals from Hannah Dale, Hannah Cain and Jodie Michalska gave Sheffield a 3-0 win over Watford – and set them up for a late-season surge up The FA Women’s Super League 2 table.

With no WSL1 action, all eyes were on the second-tier, and Sheffield turned in an impressive performance against the Golden Girls – taking them up to sixth, with only nine goals conceded.

It was the perfect way to bounce back after their Continent Cup quarter-final defeat to London Bees last Sunday.

The game was marred by an injury to Watford’s Ellie Mason, stretchered off in a neck brace late on after an accidental collision with Michalska; the club later confirmed that after precautionary checks at the hospital, she had been given the all-clear.

Everton and Durham fought out a 1-1 draw at the Select Security Stadium, with Emily Roberts continuing her good goalscoring form before Michelle Hinnigan equalised for the hosts.

This week sees the England Lionesses meet up for a training camp as part of their preparations for next month’s Euro 2017 qualifier against Estonia. They begin with five days at St George’s Park before moving on to Bisham Abbey, and it marks the start of their countdown to next summer’s tournament.

In a statement, head coach Mark Sampson explained, “This is an important camp for us.

“We’re less than a year away from the Euros and we will use the week to set out all of the work we will need to do to prepare as best we can for next summer.

“This is a great opportunity for us to work with the players to agree individual and team plans so we are at our maximum level come July, giving us the best chance possible of winning the Euros.”
