Five creative players Arsenal should target this summer to replace Mesut Ozil

Five creative players Arsenal should target this summer to replace Mesut Ozil.

Having only been at the club a matter of weeks by the time the January transfer window came around, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will see this summer as his first proper transfer window.

The Spaniard and his team will undoubtedly be eyeing many different players who he will hope will make a difference at Arsenal come the start of the 2020/2021 campaign.

But one position he will be key to strengthen is a creative midfielder ideally to replace the highest paid player at the club, Mesut Ozil.

For one reason or another, it simply hasn’t happened for the Germany international and Arteta will know that he will need to find a replacement if he believes Ozil’s poor form will continue.

Here are five possible contenders.

Luiz Alberto, Lazio

Yes, that’s right, it’s the same Alberto who played at Liverpool under then-manager Brendan Rodgers, at the time Alberto was not deemed good enough for Liverpool and was shipped out on loan to Malaga before making a permanent switch to Lazio in 2016. He is now one of the most creative players in Serie A with an impressive 12 assists to his name this season.

Moussa Diaby, Bayer Leverkusen

The former PSG midfielder now finds himself in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and has one of the best assists tallies across the whole of Europe amongst players 21 and under. A real talent with a huge future ahead of him, the Gunners are sure to have to compete with many other top European clubs if they want to gain Diaby’s signature.

Papu Gomez, Atalanta

Serie A outfit Atalanta will be one of the teams most disappointed that football is currently postponed as they were lighting up the 2019/2020 campaign with their exciting brand of attacking football. They have reached the Champions League quarter finals and are doing well in the league, and the creative play of Papu Gomez is a big reason behind their success.

Rodrigo Moreno, Valencia

A creative midfielder who is not afraid of chipping in with goals. Moreno Scored 19 goals from midfield last season and contributed a further 14 last term. He also spent a period on loan at Bolton Wanderers early in his career, so will know a thing or two about the competitiveness of English football.

Alassane Plea, Borussia Monchengladbach

Lat but not least, another talent from the Bundesliga in Plea. Sitting only behind the brilliant payers Tomas Muller and Serge Gnabry in chances created in the league, Plea is a player who will create chances for other attacking players. Playing in a central role, the France international is thriving this season, chipping in with eight goals of his own too.
