Five things we learned from Chelsea v Brentford

Chelsea have booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup after knocking out Brentford on Saturday.

The Blues came out with a 4-0 victory at Stamford Bridge against their South West London rivals.

Willian put the hosts ahead with a very well taken free-kick.

Pedro got the second of the match after running onto a well-placed pass from Michy Batshuayi.

Substitute Branislav Ivanovic got the Blues’ third of the match shortly after replacing Willian.

Before Batshuayi completed the rout with a penalty kick, that had been won by Ivanovic.

The win for the current Premier League leaders means that they will enter Monday’s fifth round draw for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

Shoot! looks at the five major talking points from the clash at Stamford Bridge…

Blues progress

In similar fashion to their third round victory over Peterborough United, Chelsea beat the Bees by four goals.

Even with elements of rotation in both of their FA Cup ties this campaign, Antonio Conte’s side have so far swept away everything that has been thrown at them.

They may have been drawn two comfortable home times so far, but the Blues don’t seem to be phased by whoever they may face.

With only 15 other teams left in the competition, Chelsea are now only four cup wins away from clinching their eighth triumph in this competition.

Bees lacking sting

The side managed by Dean Smith have lost their last three matches in all competitions.

In fact, Brentford’s last victory came over National League side Eastleigh in the third round of this competition three weeks ago.

Since then, they have lost against three former FA Cup winners in the forms of Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic and now Chelsea.

Brentford may be eight points clear of relegation in the Championship table, but if they continue losing games in the way they currently are, then they may dragged into a relegation dogfight in the final part of the season.

London’s ‘Bridge’ still stands strong

The victory for Conte’s side was their 10th consecutive victory at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have not lost at home since their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the league over four months ago.

The atmosphere again spurred ‘the famous CFC’ through this fixture and the game was another sell out for the hosts.

They only have eight remaining league fixtures at home this season, and if they can maintain their home winning streak, then Chelsea have a very good chance of lifting the Premier League trophy in May.

McEachran’s return

Despite Brentford losing 4-0 and being eliminated from the FA Cup, it was a very special day for the McEachran family.

After departing Chelsea in 2015, 23-year-old midfielder Josh returned to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for the first time.

He was treated to a fantastic reception, both before and during the match, a better reception than some of the home players.

To top off the occasion, younger brother George scored for Chelsea Under-18’s prior to the first-team game in their 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Whether it is Josh or George, it is fair to say that the McEachran name will be remembered by the Blues’ fans for several years to come.

Return of the Ake

After being recalled from AFC Bournemouth at the start of January, Nathan Ake made his first Chelsea start under Antonio Conte.

The young Dutchman played for 90 minutes, starting at left wing-back before moving to centre-back midway through the second-half.

He was very solid for the duration of the game and his versatility shows that he may have a future with Conte in charge of the side.

Kenedy also made his first appearance since returning on loan from Watford last month. The Brazilian came on as a substitute for Cesar Azpilicueta for the last 20 minutes of the match.
