Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has urged Barcelona legend Lionel Messi to return to the Spanish giants.

The Spaniard, who recently signed for Serie B side Como, spent three years playing alongside Messi in Catalunya.

Messi left Barcelona after 16 years with the club last summer to join French side Paris Saint-Germain but has failed to recreate the form he showed in Spain.

During his time with Barcelona, Messi scored 670 goals and provided 302 assists in 776 matches.

Now, Fabregas has urged the Argentine to return to the Nou Camp.

“As a Barcelona fan, I hope and I wish that Messi returns to Barcelona,” he said, as reported by The Mirror.

“He has one year left of his contract in Paris. I would love it if he returned. It is a dream that the club and all the fans have, but I speak to you as a fan of Barcelona.”

Messi himself has even spoken of his surprise at leaving Barcelona.

“It was really difficult to understand what happened, I wasn’t expecting to leave Barcelona – it was a shock,” he told TyC Sports shortly after the move.

“I had everything in Barcelona. I left when I was very young. What’s more: I lived more in Barcelona than in Argentina.

“The truth is that I had no plans to change anything. Luckily, the children’s adaptation was spectacular. For Antonella and me it was more difficult.”
