Bristol City are reportedly poised to sign former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda, according to The Sun.

The Championship strugglers, who sacked manager Steve Cotterill last week, have been linked with a move for the out-of-favour Cardiff City forward throughout the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old, who is a former Italy Under-21 international, has failed to score in just five appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds so far this season.

Macheda, who scored five goals in 36 games for 13-time Premier League champions United, is expected to leave the Cardiff City Stadium for Ashton Gate once they appoint a new manager.
