Four players who could leave Manchester City this summer due to Champions League ban

Guardiola has had some run-ins with Real Madrid over the years.

Four players who could leave Manchester City this summer due to Champions League ban.

When the story broke on Friday night that Man City have been banned from European football’s premier club competition, it sent shocks around the football world.

With the vast success, City have enjoyed since their takeover, they have never won the Champions League and it’s one of the main reasons manager Pep Guardiola was brought to the club.

And now, it’s looking very likely that the Manchester club will take no part in the Champions League for the next two seasons.

With many rumours circling, we take a look at the four players who could seek a move away from City this summer.

Sergio Aguero

The talismanic striker, who has done so much for the club since his arrival in 2011, famously stated he would not lave until City lifted the Champions League.

Given the recent news and the fact the Argentina international’s deal ends in 2021, the fan favourite could exit the club this summer.

Leroy Sane

Many would argue that Sane would have left the club regardless, however the recent Champions League news, could be the final straw for the Germany international.

Bayern Munich are favourites to sign the winger, who according to reports is not happy at the Etihad.

Aymeric Laporte

Vastly considered as the second best defender in the Premier League, one behind Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk. Laporte would gain interest from all major clubs around Europe.

The France international is good enough to get into any Champions League side and will have to weigh up his options. However a long-term deal until 2025 will play in City favour.

Nicolas Otamendi

The Champions League news may make Otamendi’s decision an easier one, as the central defender is desperate to finish his career at Argentinian side River Plate.

At 32-years-old now and with no European football to keep him at the club, the defender could depart this summer.
