German side Borussia Dortmund appear to have joined the growing list of clubs across Europe that have rejected the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

The Portuguese has told the club about his desire to leave and, despite Manchester United’s initial reluctance, The Red Devils now appear to be open to the idea of letting their talisman leave.

The likes of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Sporting Lisbon are all believed to have declined the opportunity to sign the 37-year-old, and now Dortmund appear to have done the same.

As reported by The Mirror, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted that the club are not in talks to sign Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is struggling to find a new club

“I love him as a player, it’s certainly a charming idea. To see Cristiano Ronaldo play at Signal Iduna Park…, ” he said.

Before adding, “But there is no contact at all between the parties involved. So from now on, you should stop talking about it.”

The chief executive’s comments appear to put an end to any chance of Ronaldo joining Dortmund and, with the transfer deadline fast approaching, it looks increasingly likely that the forward will remain at Old Trafford beyond the end of the summer.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 games last season upon his return to the club that he left back in 2009, but rumours suggest that Erik ten Hag is growing frustrated at the negative impact that Ronaldo has on the dressing room.
