Hibernian appoint Neil Lennon as their new manager

Scottish Championship side Hibernian have announced the appointment of Neil Lennon on a two-year contract, the Easter Road outfit confirmed on Wednesday evening.

Lennon, aged 44, returns to management having been out of a job since departing Bolton Wanderers in mid-March, after 17 months at the Macron Stadium.

His last stint in Scotland was a fruitful four-year stay at Celtic between 2010-2014, where he won two Premiership titles whilst with the Glasgow giants.

The Northern Irishman succeeds former manager Alan Stubbs, who left Edinburgh to take charge of English Championship side Rotherham United earlier in June.

Hibs will play in Europe next term, after winning the Scottish Cup Final against Rangers in May, but will compete in Scotland’s second-tier for a third season in a row.

Lennon will be joined at Hibernian by Garry Parker, who was his assistant at both Bolton and Celtic.

Speaking of the appointment, club chief executive Leeann Dempster said: As soon as Neil was identified as the outstanding candidate we were determined to bring him to Easter Road. He has managed at a very high level, taking Celtic to the last 16 of the Champions League, and we were attracted by his ability to get the most out of players and his driven, winning mentality.
