How Manchester United could line-up next season after the summer transfer window closes

Solskjaer has many defenders in his squad.

How Manchester United could line-up next season after the summer transfer window closes.

United enjoyed a strong finish to their Premier League season, eventually finishing in 3rd place ahead of Chelsea and Leicester City.

That position has guaranteed them Champions League football next season, and fans will be excited for what’s to come next campaign.

So much seems to have changed since the club turned their fortunes around in January. World-class midfielder Paul Pogba looks like he will stay with the club having looked back to his best alongside new recruit Bruno Fernandes.

With potential further signings joining Old Trafford this summer, could manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lead his side to a serious title challenge?

Here we predict Solskjaer’s XI following potential summer ins and outs…

Goalkeeper: David de Gea came under the most amount of criticism out of all United players since the return of football following lockdown. He made a vast number errors, probably more than he has done across three seasons at United. There has been calls for Solskjaer to bring in Dean Henderson who has spent the last two campaigns at Sheffield United, performing superbly. However, we’re backing Solskjaer to stick with De Gea as he so often has done since becoming United boss.

Defenders: Despite a couple of sub-par performances club captain Harry Maguire has brought real stability to this United defence and will be the club’s main man moving forward. There has been a lot of talk that Solskjaer will look to bring in another world-class defender to play alongside the England international. Napoli man Kalidou Koulibaly has been touted and recent rumours have suggested Jan Vertonghen could join the club. If one of these joins they will slot alongside Maguire with the imperious Aaron Wan-Bissaka right back and the much-improved Luke Shaw left back.

Midfielders: The central midfield area at United was one of their weakest positions in recent seasons, but it now seems on their strongest. Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba are simply world class. And players such as Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are very strong squad players. We believe Solskjaer will stick with his midfield this summer and attempt to strengthen in other areas.

Forwards: The front three of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are in fine form for United and fans will be hoping they will be their front three going into next season. We still believe Solskjaer will make a late attempt to prize Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, which could make United’s attacking quartet one of the most feared in the country.
