Phil Jagielka
The 33-year-old was touted as England’s best centre-half in the last twelve months due to his consistency by Everton boss Roberto Martinez. And we would have to agree! Well, for the past ten months anyway… Jagielka has flourished at the heart of the Toffees’ defence this year; alongside expertly tutoring the talented John Stones at Goodison Park, to significantly help turn around the club’s poor run of form during the latter stages of 2014 into this calendar year. With Everton sitting prettily above Merseyside rivals Liverpool in the league standings; be it on goal difference, Jagielka has played a pivotal part in Everton’s resilience so far this term, helping goalkeeper Tim Howard keep three clean sheets from their opening nine league games before becoming the first-ever player from the club to captain England when he skippered the Three Lions to victory in Lithuania earlier this month.
