If West Brom had a 2015 Ballon d’Or nominee…

Saido Berahino

Saido Berahino scored 20 goals in all competitions last season for West Brom.

Only Harry Kane and Charlie Austin scored more Premier League goals as an Englishman last season; making Saido Berahino West Brom’s standout nominee for the Ballon d’Or, if you excuse his summer antics. Despite threatening to never play for the Midlands club again after being blocked in his attempts to force through a deadline day move to Tottenham only last month, Baggies fans have soon forgiven the forward after bagging three more goals so far this campaign. Although it seems unlikely that Berahino will reach the dizzy heights that he did last term; scoring 20 goals in all competitions, which inevitably drew interest from the Premier League ‘big boys’, Berahino will be eager to work his way back into Roy Hodgson’s good books by the end of the calendar year with the 2016 UEFA European Championships awaiting next summer. With West Brom’s club-record signing Salomon Rondon still finding his feet in the English top-flight, Berahino’s importance at The Hawthorns is undoubtedly crucial as the club look to beat the drop and retain their Premier League status for a seventh successive season. Two of his three Premier League goals this campaign have accounted for six of West Brom’s 11 points so far this season, bagging imperative winners against Aston Villa and Sunderland respectively.
