Is this the Arsenal XI that will embarrass PSG in the Champions League?

The Gunners stole three points from Southampton late on with a controversial last minute penalty on Saturday in what was a performance far from their best, however, they have the chance to move on quickly with the trip to Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Arsenal have not had the best of times in Europe in recent years, having not got passed the round of 16 since 2009/10, when they reached the quarter final.

Many Gooners fans will argue that they have felt foul of some harsh draws during that drab spell on the continent, however they will want to get this season’s campaign off to a good start in the French capital.

The North London side haven’t faced the French champions since the 1993/94 season, so will go into the game without any demons bogging them down, whilst still being boosted by the late additions of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez.

Wenger will be desperate to get off to a winning start on Tuesday night, and here is the team that will deliver his wish…

GK: Petr Cech

Despite being credited with an own goal against Southampton on Saturday, for which he was unfortunate having initially made a great save from Dusan Tadic’s free kick, the former Czech Republic international is still the first name on the team-sheet for Arsene Wenger.

The former Chelsea man will without doubt fill the back four in front of him with the confidence to play the ball between them a bit more, in the knowledge they have a world class shot-stopper behind them, which can only help the Gunners when they look to attack PSG.

The Spanish full-back had a few ropey moments against The Saints he is still the best option for Wenger at right-back, and still offered a lot going forward on Saturday.

When given the opportunity the former Barcelona youngster can leave his opposition for dead and supply those ahead of him with some brilliant chances.

The Gunners captain scored a superb overhead kick to level against Claude Puel’s side on Saturday, before going on to pickup a worrying facial injury in the build up to the controversial penalty decision.

However, the French international, who has made a brilliant start to the season since his return, has returned to full training this week and looks ready to go again on Tuesday night.

The German international made a faultless debut in the home win on Saturday and will no doubt play alongside the captain on Tuesday night.

Wenger’s new signing gave everything in his first Premier League outing and with a commanding performance, he will be a key component to any Arsenal successes this season.

LB: Nacho Monreal

Monreal was largely unimpressive as the Premier League returned from the international break, fouling Nathan Redmond to hand Tadic the chance to give Saints the lead, but will still more than likely be trusted in the left-back slot on Tuesday, having started all four Premier League games this season.

The former Malaga man has a wealth of experience in the Champions League, therefore it would be a surprise should he be left out at the Parc des Prices.

The Swiss international was rested for the Premier League game against Southampton, replaced by Francis Coquelin, which should mean he will play the full 90 minutes on Tuesday night.

The former Monchengladbach man has got off to a great start in North London, having particularly impressed in the win over Watford before the international break.

CM: Santi Cazorla

The Spaniard was the stand-out saviour for Arsene Wenger on Saturday, with or without the late penalty he was undoubtedly the Man of the Match.

As he showed at the weekend the central midfielder can dictate a game regardless of how those around him are performing, and is always capable of creating a special moment to turn the tide in favour of his side.

RW: Theo Walcott

Having finally realised that he can’t just pick and choose where he plays, Walcott has made a strong start to the new season, earning himself a call up to Sam Allardyce’s inaugural England squad.

As long as he applies a bit more thought to his decision making in the final third the former Southampton man could be the one to make the difference in France.

The ‘Assist King’ was, it has to be said, nowhere to be seen against the South Coast side at the weekend but a player of his quality is allowed a dip every now and then.

However, the former Real Madrid man will need to make sure that his showing last time out was indeed just a blip if The Gunners are to gain anything from their trip to the continent.

LW: Alexis Sanchez

Of course Sanchez is included, having flown to South America and back, with two 90 minute games in between, for international duty the winger was brought off the bench on Saturday, as Wenger looked to make sure he was ready for the Champions League contest on Tuesday.

Perhaps the only Arsenal player that will truly scare the French champion’s back line, the former Barcelona man will have to be firing to help Wenger to a win.

ST: Olivier Giroud

The France international is yet to start for Arsenal this season, however, with debutant Lucas Perez making little to no impact at the weekend, it took Giroud to come off the bench and cause enough trouble to win his side a last ditch penalty.

A front runner for the award for the most harshly criticised Premier League player, on his day the striker can run the show for the Gunners and could certain do some damage in his home country.
