With Southampton looking odds on for Premier League football again next season, the club have announced a freeze on season ticket prices for the 2017/18 campaign.
However, it’s not quite the good news it may seem as anyone purchasing a season ticket for the first time can do so at the same price as those who already own one, a strange decision in many ways as most clubs offer incentives for longer term, loyal season ticket holders.
It’s been another season of defying the odds for the Saints as Claude Puel’s side made it to the League Cup final, and despite seeing some of their most talented players depart over recent years, they are currently sat in mid-table in the Premier League.
At St Mary’s, there are 2000 new seats for a family area which will be offered at a low price, but it’s the price freeze most Saints fans have focused on, and the fact there’s scant recompense for renewing your existing tickets.
And many of them have reacted with frustration at the season ticket price news…
@SouthamptonFC please tell me this is just new season tickets and not renewals….

@SouthamptonFC actually think it’s ridiculous that you don’t get a discount for renewals. Loyalty use to mean something

@SouthamptonFC so no benefit to those of us who have had season tickets for years?

@SouthamptonFC why has existing season ticket holders in the rest of the ground not seen any reduction?
It’s only fans who show any loyalty— kevin Bills (@KevinKevinbills) March 28, 2017
