It’s getting to that time of the year whereby rumours are flying around about which players may be looking to move in the January transfer window.
With the international break taking centre stage this week and next, many Premier League managers will likely take some time to assess their club’s start to the season, and indeed how well their players have performed in the opening months.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho may well be one of those managers analysing the performances of some of his players, and deciding whether or not they have a future at Old Trafford.
United have started the season with four wins from their opening seven matches, but they are already five points behind neighbours and league leaders Manchester City.
The Portuguese may consider offloading some of his players in January, so here are THREE who he should move on when the window reopens…
Memphis Depay
It just hasn’t worked out for Memphis Depay at Manchester United.
The Dutch winger arrived at Old Trafford with high hopes after impressing for PSV Eindhoven and the Netherlands, but he has really struggled to nail down a first team place.
There have been flashes of his brilliance since his move last summer, mainly in United’s European matches against Club Brugge and FC Midtjylland, but these performances have been few and far between.
Depay definitely has potential, so it would be in both his and United’s best interests if he left Manchester sooner rather than later.
Marcos Rojo
Another player brought in by Louis van Gaal and will likely be moved on by Jose Mourinho.
Marcos Rojo is simply not good enough to play for Manchester United. He is a liability defensively, and you can’t have that when you’re battling for titles and trophies.
Mourinho has yet to use him in the Premier League this season – his only starts have come in the EFL Cup and Europa League – and he is unsurprisingly falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Rojo could do a decent job for mid to lower Premier League teams, and others across Europe, so it’s likely that United will look to sell him when the window reopens in January.
Morgan Schneiderlin
Another player to have suffered from United’s huge financial investment in the squad, Morgan Schneiderlin’s time at United appears to be coming to an end.
The former Southampton midfielder was one of the hottest properties when he regularly impressed for the Saints, and it was a real coup for United to sign him ahead of the other top clubs in the country.
However, the 26-year-old has been restricted to just one Premier League appearance so far this season, and doesn’t look like breaking back into the side any time soon.
He’s a good player who deserves to be playing first team football for a decent side; United should let him go so he can continue his career.
