Klopp must give these 3 Liverpool players a chance vs Leeds United

Liverpool host Championship side Leeds United in the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night looking to go one better than last season’s runner-up finish.

The Reds lost to Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City in the final at Wembley Stadium earlier this year, but Jurgen Klopp’s side looked better equipped to go all the way this time around.

They have beaten Burton Albion, Derby County, and Tottenham en route to the last-eight, with striker Daniel Sturridge having netted four times in the competition thus far, including both goals in the 2-1 win over Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs in the previous round.

Klopp’s side are taking a 15-match unbeaten run into tomorrow’s tie at Anfield, dating back to their 2-0 defeat at Burnley on August 20, but they will come up against a resurgent Leeds team who have sparkled under Garry Monk in recent weeks.

They have won four of their last five Championship matches, and ascended into the play-off places courtesy of a 2-1 win at Rotherham on Saturday.

It’ll be a tough test for Klopp’s side on Tuesday, and he may look to give some fringe players an opportunity in the first-team.

Thus, here are THREE players who deserve a chance against Leeds on Tuesday…

Divock Origi

Divock Origi was Liverpool’s match winner against Sunderland on Saturday, and deserves a start against Leeds on Tuesday.

Klopp’s side were struggling to break down a stubborn Black Cats backline, but it was Origi, who replaced the injured Philippe Coutinho after half an hour, who provided the important moment 15 minutes from time when his cross evaded everyone and nestled into the corner.

Regardless of whether it was a shot or a cross, it was a moment of quality from the 21-year-old on a day when Liverpool really needed it and, given Coutinho’s injury, Klopp might be looking for someone to step up and take his place in the coming weeks.

Origi could be that man.

Ovie Ejaria

England Under-20 international Ovie Ejaria made his Liverpool debut only a few months ago, but he looks like a top talent in the making.

The 19-year-old came on as a substitute against Derby in the League Cup back in September, and then Klopp placed enormous faith in him by starting the midfielder against Spurs in the last round.

And he produced a composed and decent display in that Liverpool midfield against a good side, and has since been rewarded with his Premier League debut in the Reds’ 6-1 thrashing of Watford earlier this month.

Ejaria is clearly a great prospect, and deserves a second start of the season on Tuesday night.

Ragnar Klavan

Ragnar Klavan as struggled to break into the Liverpool defence at the expense of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip this season, but could get the chance on Tuesday against Leeds to stake his claim for a regular spot.

The 31-year-old moved to Anfield in the summer for little over £4 million, but has only made five starts for the Reds so far.

Two of these have been in the League Cup, including against Spurs in the previous round, and Klopp may want to give him minutes on the pitch so he is match-ready in case either of the aforementioned centre-backs get injured or suspended.
