Klopp should give these 3 Liverpool players a chance against Man United

Liverpool go to Manchester United on Sunday (4pm kick-off) still searching for their first victory of 2017.

Jurgen Klopp’s men drew 2-2 at Sunderland in their opening game of the New Year, and theN could only muster a 0-0 draw at home to League Two high-flyers Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup last weekend.

They then produced a below-par display to lose 1-0 at Southampton in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final in midweek, and you wonder whether things are beginning to catch up with them after a sensational first half of the season.

Klopp’s side are second in the Premier League having won 13 of their 20 games this season, but they know that if they lose at Old Trafford on Sunday, Jose Mourinho’s men will be just two points behind them in the table.

That’s because United have won their last six league games, and haven’t lost at Old Trafford since their 2-1 defeat to neighbours Manchester City back in September.

Thus, it’s all set up to be a fascinating afternoon at Old Trafford on Sunday, yet Klopp could look to make some changes to his side given their laboured display in midweek, so here are THREE Liverpool players who deserve a chance against United on Sunday…

Simon Mignolet

As much as goalkeeper Loris Karius was outstanding against Southampton in midweek, Klopp may look to his more experienced shot-stopper Simon Mignolet as the man to start in between the sticks against United.

The Belgian international has started the Reds’ last five Premier League matches, replacing Karius following his errors against West Ham back on December 11, and in that time Mignolet has kept three clean sheets and conceded just three goals.

Karius has never played at Old Trafford and, although his confidence will be high after an excellent showing at St Mary’s, Klopp needs his most experienced players on the pitch, so expect to see Mignolet return to the side.

Divock Origi

Daniel Sturridge had a poor evening at Southampton the other night and, with United in excellent form at present, Klopp will need his frontmen to do their fair share of defensive work at Old Trafford.

Thus, the Liverpool boss could draft Divock Origi back for his first Premier League since the 4-1 win over Stoke on December 27.

The Belgian international scored five goals in five games back in November and December when he started in place of the injured Philippe Coutinho, yet he lost his place in the side for their 1-0 victory over Manchester City on New Year’s Eve.

Nonetheless, the frontmen’s off-the-ball work could be key for Liverpool at Old Trafford and, given Origi is more likely to fulfil that role, he should come in for Sturridge on Sunday.

Philippe Coutinho

Although he wasn’t 100% and up to speed, Philippe Coutinho still looked like Liverpool’s main threat in his half hour cameo at Southampton on Wednesday night.

And, if he is ready to start, Klopp should have no hesitation in putting him in the side.

The Brazilian international netted five goals and laid on five assists in the Premier League prior to his injury against Sunderland, and he is the one that really makes Liverpool tick in the final third.

Sadio Mane’s absence is a big blow to the Reds, but having Coutinho back fit more than makes up for that – Klopp needs to start him if he’s fully fit on Sunday.
