Klopp should give these 3 Liverpool players a chance against Stoke

Liverpool find themselves second in the Premier League and six points behind leaders Chelsea at Christmas.

Jurgen Klopp’s side left it late to secure a 1-0 win over Merseyside rivals Everton last week, their second successive away victory in the league.

Sadio Mane’s 94th minute strike sealed the deal for the Reds, who moved above Manchester City into second and within two wins of Antonio Conte’s Blues.

Klopp’s men have won 11 of their opening 17 league matches, and face Mark Hughes’ Stoke on Tuesday in a bid to win for a third consecutive time in the Premier League.

The Potters haven’t won any of their last three games, and last won on the road at the end of November, where they beat Watford 1-0 at Vicarage Road.

However, they will provide a stern test for Klopp’s Liverpool on Tuesday as both sides look to get that first post-Christmas win, and set themselves up for a prosperous 2017.

With a tricky encounter coming up against Manchester City, Klopp may decide to shuffle his pack against Stoke, so here are THREE players who deserve a chance on Tuesday…

Emre Can

With a tricky home game against Manchester City coming up on New Year’s Eve, Klopp may rotate his midfield options to keep them fresh over the festive period.

Thus, he could recall Emre Can to the starting eleven.

The German international hasn’t started their last three league games due to the return of Adam Lallana and the improving form of Georginio Wijnaldum, yet Klopp may feel that he warrants a starting berth, especially as he scored one and assisted another in his last start against Bournemouth.

Can has done well when called upon this season, and he may need to do so again on Tuesday.

Alberto Moreno

James Milner has played a lot of football since replacing Alberto Moreno at left-back all the way back in September, so Klopp may decide to give him a rest against Stoke.

Thus, Spanish international Moreno may get the chance to prove his worth to the manager.

The 22-year-old was hopeless at the start of the season, but excelled in his one Premier League start since being dropped, providing the assist for Emre Can to net the opener in their 4-2 win at Crystal Palace on October 29.

There are still question marks over his capabilities at left-back, but he should be given an opportunity, especially with the transfer window approaching, to prove his worth to Liverpool.

Daniel Sturridge

It was Daniel Sturridge’s great work and strike which helped Liverpool beat Merseyside rivals Everton last week, and it may be enough for him to earn a place in the starting eleven on Tuesday.

The England striker has not started a Premier League game since the Reds’ 0-0 draw with Manchester United back in October, yet it was his effort, which hit the post and rebounded into the path of Sadio Mane, that helped unlock a stubborn Everton defence last week.

Divock Origi didn’t have his best game against the Toffees and, with Philippe Coutinho still out injured, Sturridge may get a fifth league start of the campaign at Anfield on Tuesday.
