Koeman must scout these 3 players for Everton over the international break

It’s got to that part of the season when it’s time for another international break, with some important World Cup qualifiers taking place across the globe.

England are in action twice over the next fortnight, with Gareth Southgate taking charge of his first game as interim manager on Saturday against Malta. He then embarks on his first away trip in charge of the Three Lions against Slovenia on the following Tuesday.

The fortnight break also gives Premier League managers a bit of time to assess their side’s start to the season, and many may use the time to scout out potential transfer targets ahead of the window reopening on January 1.

Ronald Koeman of Everton could do exactly that.

The Toffees currently sit fifth in the Premier League after winning four of their opening seven matches, with a 1-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth the only blemish on an otherwise decent start to the campaign.

However, Koeman still may feel that certain aspects of his side need improvement if they are to mount a serious challenge for the European places, so here are THREE players him and his team should look to scout over the two-week international break…

Majeed Waris

Koeman may feel that he needs some more firepower as the season progresses, especially if talisman Romelu Lukaku gets injured or suspended.

As a result, he could check out Ghanaian international forward Majeed Waris, who is part of a four-man strike force for the Black Stars’ World Cup qualifier against Uganda on Friday.

At 25-years-of-age, he should be approaching the peak of his career, and illustrated that somewhat last season for French side Lorient, where he netted 11 times in 21 Ligue 1 appearances.

Although he’s yet to net so far this season, he’s clearly a player with an eye for goal, and could be worth keeping tabs on over the next few weeks.

Zach Clough

Probably not someone who’s going to come in and make an immediate difference, but Zach Clough is a hugely talented footballer who should be destined for the Premier League one day.

Playing for League One side Bolton Wanderers doesn’t reflect his current ability, but a few injury problems in recent times have stunted his development.

However, there was Championship interest in the summer, but if Everton can get in there, Clough may find it too good an opportunity to turn down in aiding his development.

He’ll likely go out on loan for the first few seasons, but the fact he’d be on Everton’s books could be hugely beneficial to the Toffees in the long term.

Josip Ilicic

A player who has been linked with a move to the Premier League before, Slovenian international Josep Ilicic could certainly do a job in the Everton midfield.

He netted 15 times for Fiorentina last season and ten the season before, so knows where the back of the net is, and is likely to start for Slovenia in their World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and England in the next few weeks.
