Koeman should give these 3 Everton players a chance against Hull

Everton travel to the Premier League’s bottom side Hull on Friday looking to build upon their 2-0 win over champions Leicester on Boxing Day.

Goals from Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku secured a sixth victory of the campaign for Ronald Koeman’s men, and their first on the road since the middle of September.

That was only their second win in their last eight matches, but there are clear signs of improvement from the Toffees, who rose to seventh in the table following their Boxing Day triumph at the King Power Stadium.

And they’ll be confident of getting a result at the KCOM Stadium on Friday, as Mike Phelan’s Hull have lost their last three Premier League matches, and have only won one of their last 16 league games.

The Tigers are bottom of the division and four points adrift of safety after their 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City on Boxing Day, and Phelan knows that his side have got to start picking up points quickly if they are to retain their Premier League status come May.

In what is likely to be an interesting battle at the KCOM Stadium, Everton boss Koeman could shuffle his pack, especially with a home game against Southampton to come on Monday.

Thus, here are THREE players who deserve a chance against Hull on Friday…

Tom Davies

18-year-old Tom Davies replaced Gareth Barry in the second half against Leicester on Boxing Day and, given that James McCarthy looks set for a spell on the sidelines, Koeman may give Davies a start on Friday.

Barry is unlikely to be able to play three games in seven days and, with a home game against Southampton to come on Monday, Koeman will need to shuffle his central midfield options against the Tigers.

With Idrissa Gueye also going to the African Cup of Nations next month, it’s likely that we’ll be seeing more of Davies, who could be in line to make his first Premier League start on Friday.

Enner Valencia

Enner Valencia has only made two Premier League starts since joining Everton on loan from West Ham at the start of the campaign, but he’s likely to receive a few more over the coming weeks.

The 27-year-old started the Toffees’ 2-1 win over Arsenal and their recent 1-0 loss at home to Liverpool, and in both games he gave Koeman’s side an outlet out wide.

Although he wasn’t great against Liverpool, the Ecuadorian international could be called upon if Koeman looks to rotate his squad ahead of the visit of Southampton on Monday.

Gerard Deulofeu

Hull have conceded 39 goals in the Premier League this season, 18 of which have been at the KCOM Stadium.

That’s the second worst record in the top-flight, and Everton know that if they can get at Hull with pace, trickery, and guile, they could reap the rewards by getting balls into the box towards Romelu Lukaku.

Thus, Koeman could turn to the talented Gerard Deulofeu to try and unlock the Tigers backline.

The 22-year-old is excellent from set pieces and his crossing ability is improving, but it’s his willingness to take defenders on and create space for himself which could really benefit Everton on Friday.
