League One Round-up: Burton Albion go top

Burton Albion are the new leaders of League One after a 2-1 home victory over Millwall.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side are now two points clear at the top thanks to first half strikes from Damien McCrory and Nasser El Khayati.

Joe Martin’s goal after 75 minutes gave the visitors hope, but there was to be no dramatic comeback.

The Lions, who had Mark Beevers sent of in injury time, remain just outside the play-offs in seventh.

Albion’s main concern now will be holding on to Hasselbaink, who has been strongly linked with a move to QPR.

Elsewhere, Walsall began life without Dean Smith in spectacular style with a 3-1 win away at Shrewsbury.

Larnell Cole had put the Shrews ahead, only for Milan Lalkovic to reply right on half time.

Ian Black’s second half red card turned the game in favour of the Saddlers as goals from Paul Downing and Jordan Cook earned them a victory which moves them up to third.

Shrewsbury stay 19th and just two points above the drop zone.
