League Two Round-Up: Luton top after Wycombe mauling, Stevenage hit Hartlepool for six

Stevenage bounced back from last week’s demoralising defeat to Grimsby Town, by thrashing Hartlepool United 6-1 in League Two over the weekend.

Astonishingly, it was Pool who took the lead when Nathan Thomas scored after just four minutes. But, strikes from Tom Pett, Dean Wells, a Michael Tonge penalty, Matthew Godden and a Tyler Walker brace sealed an emphatic victory for the hosts.

Blackpool ended their winless streak, by winning 3-0 at Yeovil Town to earn their first three points since the opening day of the season. Colin Daniel hit a marvellous brace, with the first goal particularly catching the eye, as he hit an unstoppable 25-yard effort that rocketed into the top right-hand corner, before Armand Gnanduillet added a late third for the Tangerines.

Notts County came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Grimsby Town, who were denied back-to-back league wins for the first time this season after letting in two late strikes.

A Shaun Pearson header and smart finish from Omar Bogle put the visitors in what seemed a comfortable position, yet the Magpies pulled one back with just over ten minutes left when Jonathan Forte found the net. Before Aaron Collins equalised on his debut to send the hosts’ fans into a frenzy.

Exeter City came from 2-1 down to win 3-2 at Colchester United, despite initially taking the lead. Robbie Simpson had put the Grecians ahead, but the hosts hit back with both Sammie Szmodics and Kurtis Guthrie finding the back of the net. But second-half strikes from Ollie Watkins and Joel Grant meant it was the visitors who were victorious.

Luton Town went top of League Two after a sensational performance as they thrashed Wycombe Wanderers 4-1. Danny Hylton put the Hatters two goals to the good, before Matt Bloomfield’s driving strike pulled one back for the Chairboys, but his fine effort was unable to inspire a comeback as Hylton scored his and Luton’s third of the match and Jordan Cook netted a fourth in stoppage-time.

Plymouth Argyle scored in the 92nd minute to narrowly defeat Cheltenham Town 1-0, as Sonny Bradley rose the highest to head in Oscar Threlkeld’s cross in the final moments of the game, as Derek Adams’ side climb to third.

Crewe Alexandra also scored in the closing stages of their match as they overcame Doncaster Rovers, beating them 2-1. Ryan Lowe put the hosts in front with a fine finish in the first-half, before Tommy Rowe equalised for Donny with seven minutes remaining from the penalty spot. Only for James Jones to earn Crewe their first home league with of the season, as he netted three minutes from time.
