Northampton are still top of League Two after they recorded their 10th straight victory with a 2-1 win away at York City.

James Collins and John Marquis netted for the Cobblers as they move 12 points clear at the top. Russell Penn scored the Minstermen’s late consolation as they drop into the bottom two.

Shrewsbury Town loanee James Collins netted his fourth goal in seven league appearances for Northampton against York.

Plymouth stay in second, but lost ground on the leaders, after they were held 0-0 by struggling Yeovil. The point sees the Glovers move out of the relegation zone on goal difference. The Pilgrims will be looking over their shoulders after victories from their closest rivals.

Oxford United remain third, but moved to within three points of second place, after a convincing 4-1 win away at Exeter. Two goals from Jordan Bowery and one apiece for Cheyenne Dunkley and Alex MacDonald gave the U’s all three points. Alex Nicholls’ goal was of little consolation to manager Paul Tisdale as he tasted defeat in his 500th game in charge of the Devonshire side.

Fourth placed Accrington stay within three points of the top three after they beat Notts County 3-2. A brace from Romuald Boco and one from Billy Kee had Stanley 3-0 up just after the interval, but second-half strikes from Ronan Murray and Adam Campbell almost inspired an unlikely comeback. The Magpies drop to 16th.

AFC Wimbledon jumped into the play-off places after a 1-0 win at home to Carlisle. Paul Robinson’s goal just minutes after the visitors had goalkeeper Mark Gillespie dismissed was enough to settle this tie and move the Dons from 10th up to fifth. The Cumbrians remain 12th.

The night’s final game saw promotion hopefuls Portsmouth lose 1-0 away at Barnet. John Akinde’s first-half penalty gave the Bees victory and moves them up to 15th. Defeat for Pompey drops them out of the play-off places.
