Leeds are in danger of missing out on Aitor Karanka to Alaves.

According to a report on TalkSPORT the former Middlesbrough boss is in line for the Alaves job which became available on Monday when Mauricio Pellegrino left the club.

As soon as Garry Monk left Leeds Karanka was installed as one of the front runners for the Elland Road job with the speculation intensifying when former Middlesbrough man Victor Orta was appointed as Leeds Director of Football.

Karanka spent some time in the Alaves youth system in the late eighties and retains strong links with the area.

So far there have been no real indications of who Leeds are looking for as the club’s new owners settle in and assess the condition of the club.

After the appointment of Orta it was expected that Karanka would follow soon after but unless they move quickly they might lose out on the former Middlesbrough boss who guided the club to promotion in 2016.
