Leeds defender Charlie Taylor refused to play against Wigan

Leeds United manager Garry Monk is far from happy after revealing that wantaway star Charlie Taylor ‘refused to play’ against Wigan Athletic on Sunday.

The Whites have seen their Championship campaign come to a disappointing end after missing out on a place in the top six, with a run of just one win in their last eight matches a chief reason for their demise.

It meant that their clash at Wigan on Sunday became somewhat of a dead rubber, with them needing to win and a 13-goal swing on Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham to reach the top six, and now it turns out that 23-year-old Taylor, who is out of contract in the summer, refused to play at the DW Stadium.

And manager Monk was understandably very disappointed with the youngster, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, West Brom, and Burnley over the course of the season.

Monk said: ‘There’s no sugar-coating this – Charlie refused to play the game.

‘To refuse to play the game, for me as a manager and for the club, that’s unacceptable. I’ve got a lot of time for Charlie, as we all have at the club.

‘He’ll learn from this but, as a manager and a club, you cannot have a player refusing to play. The club will have a strong stance on this, I’m sure.’

This news will come as huge disappointment and anger several Leeds fans given that Taylor started out at Elland Road back in 2011, and has since then gone on to appear 104 times for the Yorkshire club, and won their Player of the Year award last season.

The club reportedly rejected a transfer request from the left-back at the start of the campaign, and since then speculation has grown about his future at Elland Road, with the aforementioned Premier League trio all linked with the 23-year-old.

With his contract up and his refusal to play on Sunday, it looks like Taylor’s Leeds career is coming to a disappointing end.
