Leeds United were left to rue a disappointing end to the Championship season as the main reason for them missing out on the play-offs.
The Yorkshire outfit were well-lodged inside the top six throughout 2017, yet a run of just two wins in their last 11 games saw them slip out of the play-off positions, and ultimately finish five points adrift in seventh.
And although this was a clear frustration among many Leeds supporters, many also reflected on the season as a positive given where the club was at in the 2015/16 campaign, and thus praised manager Monk for his efforts.
Yet the 38-year-old has still yet to agree an extension to his current contract, currently due to expire this summer, and that has increased speculation about his future as Leeds boss.
And recent reports suggest that Championship-bound Middlesbrough are lining up a move to make Monk their new manager when they return to the second tier next season.
The North East side were relegated from the Premier League with just 28 points from their 38 games, finishing 12 points adrift of safety, and are already thinking about how to get out of the Championship at the first attempt next term.
And they reportedly see Monk as the answer, and it’s news which has stimulated quite the response from Leeds supporters on Twitter, who hope that Monk will stay and have also blasted the Leeds hierarchy for failing to get things sorted out quicker…
If Monk goes to Boro I’ll be fuming

Wish we’d hurry up and sort Monk out, ridiculous that he’s now favourite for Boro. Should have secured him months back.

If Garry monk goes Middlesbrough it could possibly be the most stupid thing Leeds have ever done not signing him up.
