One of the main reasons for Leeds United’s Championship promotion push this season has been the goals of Chris Wood.
The 25-year-old has helped keep Garry Monk’s side at the top end of the table, which is why news that the New Zealand international had picked up an injury on duty with his country in the recent World Cup qualifying win against Fiji on Saturday will have been a huge blow to many fans.
At one point, it appeared Wood looked certain to miss this weekend’s vital away game at play-off rivals Reading, but the latest reports indicate the 25-year-old will be assessed before a final decision is made as to whether Monk can risk him.
New Zealand coach Anthony Hudson didn’t risk Wood for the return game with Fiji as part of a double header, but does not appear to think the injury is too serious, claiming he had ‘decided to be extra cautious.’
And here is how some Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to news that Wood could be fit to face Jaap Stam’s Reading…
Hope to god Chris Wood will be fit for Leeds game on Saturday, just so he can score and silence Reading#lufc #mot
