If there’s one thing you cannot accuse Leeds United fans of it’s expecting too much as a club that’s often struggled since it left the Premier League over a decade ago continues to attract large crowds and get behind the team.
Back to back losses may have dented the Whites promotion hopes but much of the support still seems to back manager Garry Monk as the right man for the job to finally get them back in the Premier League despite back to back losses and news he’s yet to be offered a new deal hasn’t gone down well.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Preston North End, Monk said:
“I’m focused on the football but I’m sure the club will want to sit down at some point.
“When that happens, when the club ask me for that, then no problems but I’m focused on this game on Saturday.”
Leeds are currently fifth in the Championship, five points clear of seventh place as they look to gain promotion via the play-offs. Monk has received a lot of praise this season as the club look to be a lot more competitive under his regime.
Following the latest news regarding Monk’s contract, Leeds fans took to social media to voice their concerns:
Can’t help but want Garry Monk to succeed. The way he speaks about #lufc. He gets it.

Really is unbelievable that #lufc haven’t started contract talks with Monk yet as revealed in his presser.

@joerawson maybe radders wants to bring in his own man joe?
— topman65 (@baldyman1965) April 6, 2017
@baldyman1965 Surely not. With the work done this season I’d be offering him everything I can to stay.

@joerawson Personally i think offering the gaffer a contract now would be a huge boost to the players and maybe be the last catalyst needed

@joerawson Maybe Monk is stalling …. Could negotiate a bigger contract if Leeds go up
— Nick Mortimer (@Morts_7) April 6, 2017
If season ends and Monk hasn’t been sold a vision for what the club wants to be, that’s an exceptional dereliction of duty on @LUFC‘s part.

@Jordan_Armo I think Monk will goto PL team if he fails to go up with us

@PhilHayYEP If Leeds don’t offer Monk a new contract, then it may be the most stupid thing the club has done since ’04. And it has done a lot of stupid.
