Leicester City could reportedly make a move to re-sign England international Danny Drinkwater, according to the Express.

The Premier League side, who suffered a 2-1 home defeat to the hands of in-form Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, have been linked with a January swoop for the out of favour Chelsea midfielder.

The 28-year-old, who has three international caps for the Three Lions, has made just one competitive appearance for The Blues so far this season, featuring as a substitute for the final 30 minutes against Manchester City in the FA Community Shield last month.

The central midfielder has not been included in any of new manager Maurizio Sarri’s matchday squads in the Premier League this campaign.

Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater, Gary Cahill and Ross Barkley celebrate winning the 2018 FA Cup final.

Drinkwater, who arrived at Stamford Bridge back in September 2017 following his £35m move from Leicester, has scored one goal in 23 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea.

However, the report claims The Foxes are keeping tabs on their former player this term with a view of bringing him back to the King Power Stadium in the New Year.

Leicester were understood to have approached Chelsea about re-signing Drinkwater during the previous summer transfer window, but they were unable to agree a deal in time.

Fellow Premier League sides Southampton and West Ham United have also been linked with signing the England midfielder on loan in January for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

Drinkwater is contracted at Chelsea until June 2022, and is valued at £18m.
