Lineker: Losing Walker wouldn’t be the worst problem for Tottenham

Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker looks as if he could be on his way out of White Hart Lane this summer, having fallen down the pecking order somewhat in the latter stages of the season.

The England international, who has been strongly linked with a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City, has emerged as one of the best in his position in the top flight and certainly the best in the England setup under the tutelage of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Spurs hero and former Three Lion Gary Lineker doesn’t think that losing the 27-year-old would be the biggest issue for the north Londoners.

“Well they’ve got [Kieran] Trippier, I like Trippier a lot I like his delivery so I think they know that,” Lineker, BT Sport’s UEFA Champion’s League host, told Shoot!

“But Walker gives you something up and down the touch line, incredible pace, but he doesn’t always give you the final delivery and does make the odd mistake but most players do.

“It’s a position where they are pretty strong so if they’re going to lose anyone, you know, you’ve to keep Kane, Alli, Alderwiereld and the ‘keeper [Hugo Lloris], if they keep the spine they’ll be fine.”

Trippier, who joined from Burnley in 2015, became a far more prevalent member of the squad in the final weeks of the season, and Pochettino’s choice to start the 26-year-old ahead of Walker in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea seemed to mark the beginning of the end for Walker at the club.
