Liverpool are working hard to get Georginio Wijnaldum to commit his future to the club, according to reports.

The Dutchman, who signed from Newcastle United in 2016, has played a key part in the Reds’ recent Champions League and Premier League winning seasons.

Wijnaldum has been a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s XI, starting 35 of 38 top-flight matches in 2019/20.

Now, with the 29-year-old’s current deal expiring next summer, Italian sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano has reported on his Twitter account that the champions are trying to get their man tied down to a new contract.

Wijnaldum has scored 19 goals in 186 matches for Liverpool.

Romano also claims that the Anfield side are in contact with Bayern Munich over potentially signing Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard signed for the Bundesliga champions in 2013 but he now just has one-year left on his contract.

However, it’s thought that there’s no relation between the Wijnaldum contract negotiations and a possible deal for Alcantara.
