The report claims that the Merseyside club’s £75m per-year sponsorship deal with Nike includes a clause which would see them miss out on potential ‘performance-related bonuses’ plus a small percentage drop in base income should the Reds then fail to qualify for the 2022/23 competition.
All of this means that it’s vital Klopp & Co. regain their spot amongst Europe’s elite – if they fail to claw their way to qualification this term.
That means it will be imperative for the Merseyside club to secure an instant return to Europe’s elite-level competition in the event they do miss out next season.
Despite having domestic struggles, all is not lost for Reds fans this term as they will know that winning the Champions League automatically guarantees them a spot in next season’s competition.
Liverpool are in the last-eight after comfortably seeing off RB Leipzig in the previous round, and you simply can’t write off a team which has had such success in the continent’s most prestigious club competition with six wins.
