Liverpool could lure these 2 Chelsea players to Anfield in January

Liverpool are embarking on their first full season under manager Jurgen Klopp, and they’ve made an excellent start to it.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp took over from the sacked Brendan Rodgers in October last year and, although he led the Reds to two Cup finals, both of which they lost, they could only muster an eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, hopes were high that Klopp could bring the good times back to Anfield, and many are expecting the Reds to challenge for the title this season, and at a bare minimum finish in the top four.

And they’ve gone about those challenges in an excellent manner so far.

Liverpool are third in the Premier League, level on points with leaders Manchester City, having won seven of their opening ten league games. Only Burnley have beaten the Reds so far this season, while victories over Chelsea, Arsenal, and Leicester have demonstrated Liverpool’s capabilities against the top sides.

They’ve also reached the last eight of the League Cup, courtesy of a 2-1 win over Tottenham last week, and will certainly fancy their chances of reaching the last four when they host Leeds at Anfield at the end of November.

However, Klopp may feel that he needs to strengthen his side in January in a bid to sustain a title challenge, and may look at other Premier League players to bolster his squad.

Thus, here are TWO Chelsea players he could lure to Anfield in January…

Branislav Ivanovic

Branislav Ivanovic’s time at Chelsea looks to be coming to an end.

The Serbian international defender is out of favour at Stamford Bridge and out of contract at the end of the season, thus could look for a move in January instead of waiting on the sidelines for the remainder of the campaign.

Although he hasn’t played well this season, he has proven in the past to be an adept defender in the Premier League, and was a major part of the Chelsea defence which helped the Blues win the league just two years ago.

If Liverpool have a weakness, it’s defensively and, although Ivanovic is naturally a right-back and Nathaniel Clyne has impressed there for the Reds, the Serb can and has played centre-back before.

It’s a move Klopp could consider in January, especially if Liverpool keep conceding goals.

Cesc Fabregas

Another player who has struggled to get into the Chelsea team under Antonio Conte, Cesc Fabregas could be set for a move away from Stamford Bridge in January.

The Spanish international, like Ivanovic, was an integral part of that title-winning squad under Jose Mourinho in 2014/15, assisting 18 goals and creating 91 chances for his teammates.

Yet, he has been restricted to just one Premier League start this time around, which was ended after 55 minutes due to an average display against Arsenal, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to get back into the side.

Fabregas reminded us all of what can do with an inspirational cameo against Leicester in the League Cup in September, and Klopp should consider moving for the 29-year-old in January to bring experience and solidarity to the midfield.
