Liverpool are looking to end a 26-year wait for the Premier League title this season under Jurgen Klopp, and they’ve gone about it in impressive fashion thus far.

The Reds have won seven of their first ten league matches, and trail leaders Manchester City and second-place Arsenal on goal difference.

Victories over Chelsea, Arsenal, and Leicester have been the highlights of an excellent start to the season, with Liverpool the joint-highest scorers in the division alongside Pep Guardiola’s City with 24 goals.

It’s the forward play that has been most impressive so far for Liverpool, with Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino in superb form, and they will look to pick up a third straight league win when they host Watford on Sunday.

No European commitments is surely going to help Klopp’s side challenge for the title this season, but the former Borussia Dortmund manager could still look to strengthen his side in January as they look to juggle domestic cup competitions around their league games.

Thus, he could look at other Premier League players in a bid to bolster his squad, so here are TWO Manchester City players he could try and lure to Anfield in January…

Fernando

Although he has made 11 appearances for Manchester City this season, you get the sense that manager Pep Guardiola isn’t totally convinced by Fernando.

And, based on his time at City to date, you can understand why.

He arrived at the Etihad in 2014, with City hoping that he’d be as good if not better than his compatriot Fernandinho, but it just hasn’t happened for him in Manchester.

Of those 11 appearances, only five of them have been starts, two of which came in the League Cup, so it’s clear that he’s not ahead of Fernandinho in the pecking order and, with Guardiola looking to reinforce in January, Fernando’s time at City could be nearing an end.

However, he could do a job for Liverpool in the middle of the park in helping Jordan Henderson provide a foundation for the attacking players to push on create goal-scoring opportunities.

Willy Caballero

Klopp may seek an experienced goalkeeper to come in and help young Loris Karius in January, and that keeper could be Willy Caballero.

Far from the best shot-stopper the Premier League has ever seen, Caballero has done well at times in between the sticks for City, but has never really been number one at the Etihad.

And, with Claudio Bravo at the club now, he’s not going to be any time soon.

However, with Simon Mignolet’s future up in the air, Klopp may need another goalkeeper and, with Caballero’s City contract up at the end of the season, he could move for the 35-year-old in the New Year.
