Liverpool continued their strong start to the group stages of this season’s Champions League on Tuesday as they cruised past Porto at the Estadio do Dragao.

The Premier League leaders followed up their 3-2 victory over AC Milan a fortnight ago with a 5-1 win over the Portuguese side.

A goal from Sadio Mane and two each from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino gave Jurgen Klopp’s side their biggest win of the season so far.

“It was a really good night for us”, Klopp said after the game, giving his side credit for such a convincing victory.

It appears however, that the German was impressed with one of their opponent’s players.

According to The Independent, The Reds have cast ‘a keen eye’ over Porto midfielder Luis Diaz, who played the full 90 minutes in his side’s heavy defeat on Tuesday.

Despite being a midfielder, the Colombia international is the top scorer for his side so far this term, with five goals in seven league games.

Diaz was given the chance to impress against his potential suitors on Tuesday

The 24-year-old was also named in the Copa America team fo the tournament over the summer, and finished the competition as the joint top scorer with Lionel Messi.

The report suggests that the Premier League side have joined La Liga giants Barcelona in the race to sign Diaz.

The player was also apparently the subject of an approach from Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton over the summer, but the Toffees were deterred from a potential deal after Porto revised their asking price.

Liverpool lost Gini Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri over the summer and didn’t replace either player, so Diaz could be seen as a potential replacement for either of those.

The Colombian can play on the left of a midfield or front line, and has also been deployed on the right for Porto.
