Liverpool are reportedly close to sealing the £4m transfer of Cameroon international defender Joel Matip.
The Premier League outfit, who currently sit ninth in the standings following their 3-0 defeat to Watford on Sunday, have been scouting the Schalke centre-half closely throughout the 2015-16 campaign.
The 24-year-old, who has 27 international caps for his country, has scored three goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side so far this season.
Matip; who can play as either a centre-back or defensive midfielder, will become Reds boss Jurgen Klopp’s first signing at Anfield ahead of next month’s transfer window.
