Liverpool have reportedly been linked with a move for French striker Gregoire Defrel, according to reports in Italy (via the Liverpool Echo).

The Premier League side, who currently sit fourth in the top-flight standings following four successive league wins on the bounce, have been impressed with the in-form Sassuolo forward following his blistering start to the 2016/17 campaign.

The 25-year-old, who began his career at Italian rivals Parma, has scored an impressive seven goals and provided four assists in 11 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit so far this season.

However the report includes a quote from Sassuolo’s general manager, John Carnevali, who insists the club will reject any future approach for their prized asset.

He said, “Defrel is an important player who has so many offers, but we will not sell anyone. The project is strong.”

It is thought that Defrel is also a transfer target for fellow Serie A side Napoli.
