Liverpool are reportedly in talks to sign Brazil international forward Luan, according to Yahoo! Sport.

The Premier League side, who suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Swansea City on Monday night, have been linked with luring the Gremio star to Anfield before the close of the January transfer window next Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who has two international caps for his country, featured twice for the Serie A outfit during the FIFA Club World Cup in United Arab Emirates, before losing 1-0 to Real Madrid in the final.

Luan, who is understood to have a €18m (£16m) release clause in his newly improved three-year contract that he signed back in November 2017, has scored 36 goals in 131 appearances in all competitions for Gremio overall.

The report suggests The Red have entered discussions about landing the Samba star before next Wednesday’s deadline, with £75m defender Virgil van Dijk remaining manager Jurgen Klopp’s only January addition, so far.

Forward Luan was instrumental in helping Gremio win the 2017 Copa Libertadores, being crowned Player of the Tournament, as well as being named South American Player of the Year after breaking into Brazil’s senior side last year.
