Liverpool have reportedly launched a £6.7m bid for Italy international defender Andrea Ranocchia.

The Premier League, who sit eighth in the standings following their 2-0 defeat to West Ham United at the weekend, have made a January offer for the out-of-favour Inter Milan centre-half given the club’s defensive injury crisis this month.

The 27-year-old, who has 20 international caps for his country, has made just one league start for the Serie A giants in ten appearances so far this season under ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.

Ranocchia; who has already turned down an offer to join relegation threatened Norwich City this month, is wanted by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp as injuries to Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel has left him without any recognised centre-halves at Anfield ahead of Friday’s FA Cup clash against Exeter City.
