Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard a shock contender to replace Mick McCarthy as Ipswich Town manager

Former England international midfielder Steven Gerrard has reportedly emerged as a shock candidate to become Ipswich Town manager this summer, according to The Sun.
The 37-year-old Liverpool legend, who currently coaches the Reds’ Under-18 side, could be lined up to replace Mick McCarthy at Portman Road, who will depart the Championship outfit after more than five-and-a-half years at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The report claims ex-Three Lions star Gerrard features on a list of potential replacements for 59-year-old McCarthy, with Ipswich owner Marcus Evans considering offering the Liverpool hero his first job in senior management.

Gerrard has impressed back at Anfield during his year coaching the Premier League club’s academy and is preparing for a future in management.
He has previously been linked with vacancies at League One sides Milton Keynes Dons and Oxford United this term.
Ipswich currently sit 12th in the Championship standings, following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest.
