Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign Nottingham Forest talent Ben Brereton, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League side, who currently sit second in the English top-flight standings after their opening 20 league fixtures, five points adrift of leaders Chelsea, have been linked with the Championship club’s highly-rated striker.

The 17-year-old, who is also attracting interest from rivals Manchester United, has impressively scored 17 goals for Forest’s Under-23 side so far this season.

Brereton, who netted a four-goal haul against Queens Park Rangers back in October, is poised to be scouted by potential suitors when Nottingham Forest take on Stoke City in the FA Youth Cup fourth round at the Bet365 Stadium on Tuesday.

The report suggests Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing the youngster to Anfield to continue the club’s impressive upbringing of homegrown talent, having fielded the club’s youngest-ever line-up against League Two Plymouth Argyle in the third round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Both Liverpool and United are willing to part with around £1m for Brereton’s signature.
