Liverpool must snap up these 2 Bundesliga stars in January

Liverpool fans were in high spirits ahead of their first full season under Jurgen Klopp and, based on the first few months of the campaign, it’s not difficult to see why.

The Reds have been in scintillating form in the first three months of the season, and have won eight of their opening 12 games, with Burnley the only side to have beaten Klopp’s men so far.

Despite a 0-0 draw at Southampton on Saturday, Liverpool are the highest scorers in the Premier League, with their tally of 30 goals three more than the next best Chelsea and Manchester City.

In Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, and Sadio Mane, Klopp possesses the deadliest front three in the league, and he’ll be hoping that they get back to goal-scoring ways when they take on struggling Sunderland on Saturday.

Nevertheless, the Reds’ great start means they sit second in the league, but did top the division prior to the draw at Southampton on Saturday, but were usurped by Antonio Conte’s Chelsea on Sunday.

However, some still feel that Liverpool are short in certain areas to sustain a title challenge, so here are TWO Bundesliga stars Klopp should try and snap up in January…

Jonathan Tah

It’s defensively where Liverpool have had a few issues this season, and Klopp could look to bring in reinforcements so his side remain challenging for the title come May.

One defender he could look at is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, who has been making huge strides since moving to the Bundesliga side last year.

The 20-year-old has been widely tipped to become the next great German defender, and has already made his debut for the national team when he came on in the second half against England back in March.

Tah is a ball-playing defender who is physically strong and dominates in the air, so would certainly strengthen a Liverpool defence which has looked shaky at times this season.

Klopp’s last buy from the Bundesliga was centre-back Joel Matip, who has performed admirably at the back, and a partnership between him and Tah could be the foundation Liverpool need to go on and win the title.

Julian Weigl

Many in Germany are raving about 21-year-old Julian Weigl, and it’s not difficult to see why.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder made the central spot his own in his first season at the club last season, making 47 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side as they finished runners-up in the Bundesliga.

Weigl has also started this season in fine form, and netted his first Dortmund goal in their 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League last month.

The German, who made his debut for the national side earlier this year, can control the game from the middle of the park, and retains the ball as well as anyone in the German top-flight.

Unsurprisingly, several top European sides are keeping tabs on the youngster, with Barcelona, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain all interested, so it is integral that Klopp acts fast to bring his man to Anfield.
