Liverpool must snap up these 2 La Liga stars in January

Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield was met with vast amounts of optimism from Liverpool fans over the summer.

And, based on what we’ve seen so far, they were right to expect a lot from this Reds team.

Klopp’s men are second in the Premier League having won eight of their opening 12 matches, although they were knocked off top spot following their draw at Southampton on Saturday, and then Chelsea’s subsequent win at Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Nonetheless, victories over Antonio Conte’s Blues and Arsenal have demonstrated that Liverpool have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with their title challengers, and in Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, and Sadio Mane, they’ve got one of the deadliest frontlines in the division.

There are question marks surrounding Liverpool’s defensive capabilities but, in the three games in which they have failed to score this season, they have twice kept a clean sheet, which suggests that they’re not as bad at the back as many believe.

After an excellent start to the season which has seen them scoring goals for fun, many expect Liverpool to be battling for the title come May, but there are some that feel that they will come up short.

Thus, here are TWO La Liga stars Klopp should try and snap up in January…

Jose Gaya

If Liverpool are lacking in any area of the pitch, it’s defensively, so Klopp should be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements in January.

One name he should seriously consider is Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya, who has been tipped to go one and become one of the world’s best full-backs in years to come.

However, he has proved in the last few years that he is also good enough in the present, as he has been one of the few shining lights in a turbulent period for the Spanish outfit.

At the age of 21, Gaya already has more than 100 appearances under his belt, and it’s only a matter of time before he makes the step up to the Spanish senior squad given his 11 games for the Under-21’s.

There was talk of him moving to the Premier League in the past, but Valencia have since tied him down to a long-term deal at the Mestalla, which means Liverpool may need to break the bank to secure his services.

Nonetheless, it’s a deal Klopp should try and get done in January.

Inaki Williams

Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams shot to prominence in his debut season with the senior squad last season.

The 22-year-old had originally started his professional career at Bilbao Athletic, the B side, yet an injury to striker Aritz Aduriz in December 2014 saw him promoted to the first team, and he hasn’t looked back since.

He netted a few times in the 2014/15 season, including against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, but it was last season where he made a name for himself by scoring 13 times in 36 games for the club across three different competitions.

During his time at Bilbao he has proven to be an adept winger as well as a lethal forward, and he could add even more firepower to Liverpool’s front line.

Although the Reds may have to spend big to land the youngster, his potential is frightening, and he could be a star within the next few years.
