With the January transfer window fast approaching Liverpool will be searching the market for players who can add improve their side for the second half of the campaign.

The season has started well for Jurgen Klopp’s side; winning an 9 out of a possible 15 Premier League games. Despite the recent loss to Bournemouth and draw with West Ham, they still find themselves lying in 3rd place. The Reds are have also advanced to the semi-final of the EFL Cup where they will be aiming for at least a repeat of last years final appearance.

The men from Anfield have it all to play for during the second half of the season. They’ll be desperate to claim the Premier League title, having not won the top-division since 1990. They’ll also be looking to bag some silverware that should give confidence to the team, taking them to the next stage of Klopp’s footballing revolution. To help them with these goals the recruitment team will no doubt be working overtime to identify players who can add that extra bit of quality to the side in January.

It’s always worth keeping an eye out for bargain buys during the window, as the money saved in these deals can be spent on other targets. With that said here’s THREE bargain buys Liverpool should be looking to snap up this January.

Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva’s contract is up this coming summer. When a player of his quality becomes available for a potentially cut-price fee you can be sure half of Europe will be asking after him, Liverpool should be no different.

Thiago Silva would be the ideal addition to Jurgen Klopp’s backline. The Brazilian matches world-class ability with exceptional experience and leadership qualities. He still possesses good physical attributes for a 32-year-old and looks to have plenty more years left in him at the top level.

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso and Liverpool have history, but could they also have a present? The mercurial Spaniard is out of contract at Bayern Munich in the summer, and could be available for a snip this January.

The 35-year-old still oozes class, his passing ability is unquestioned, despite his age there’s no doubt he could still be a great asset to Liverpool in the right circumstances.

Imagine a situation where Liverpool are on top but struggling to make the breakthrough with the clock ticking down; bringing on someone with the passing ability of Alonso could change the game, he could dictate the tempo and play as Steven Gerrard did in his later years at Anfield.

Saido Berahino

The enigma that is Saido Berahino could finally be about to realise his full potential. His contract is up this summer meaning he could be available for a cheap fee this January. The 23-year-old doesn’t seem interested in signing a new deal, following the tricky spell he has had at the club since he tried to push through a move to Tottenham back in the summer of 2015.

Berahino undoubtedly has talent, if he settles quickly at Anfield he could be the perfect foil for the other attacking options at Liverpool, who have been outstanding so far this season. With Sadio Mane off to the African Cup of Nations soon, tying up an early deal for Berahino could make all the difference to Liverpool’s season.
