Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of sealing the £4.2m signing of Estonia captain Ragnar Klavan, according to BBC Sport.

The Premier League side; who finished eighth in the English top-flight standings, but reached the final in both the Europa League and Capital One Cup last term, are set to make the Augsburg centre-half their fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius, Schalke defender Joel Matip and Southampton forward Sadio Mane.

The 30-year-old, who has 110 international caps for his country, made 40 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last season as Augsburg finished 12th in the German top-flight.

Klavan; who has also starred for AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie, is set to act as cover for France international Mamadou Sakho, who is expected to miss the start of the 2016/17 campaign with an Achilles tendon injury.

The Estonian will also strengthen boss Jurgen Klopp’s defensive ranks following injury to youngster Joe Gomez, plus the fact that Kolo Toure was released last term and fellow centre-half Martin Skrtel was recently sold to Fenerbahce.
