Liverpool predicted XI vs FC Midtjylland: Jurgen Klopp’s possible starting line-up as Reds set to make wholesale changes

Liverpool take on FC Midtjylland in their final Champions League group match having already qualified in top spot.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have won four and lost one of their five matches to date,  including a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture.

The Reds secured their passage to the knockout stage as group winners with a 1-0 win over Ajax at Anfield last week.

Liverpool got the job done last week.

That victory plus an impressive 4-0 win over Wolves at the weekend means the Reds have won eight of their last 11 matches in all competitions, despite having to deal with a lengthy injury list.

This has given youngsters a chance to impress and they have taken the opportunity with both hands in recent weeks.

With qualification in the bag and a trip to Fulham to come at the weekend, it’s hard to guess which team Klopp will field on Wednesday but we’ve had a go at trying to guess the German’s selection.

Here we predict the Liverpool starting XI to take on FC Midtjylland in Denmark…

Goalkeeper:

When Alisson suffered another injury last month, everyone expected Adrian to deputise between the sticks. However, Klopp gave a chance to 22-year-old Caoimhin Kelleher and he has grabbed it with both hands. The Irishman is again expected to keep his place for this one and – if he keeps a clean sheet – will become the first Liverpool goalkeeper to keep clean sheets in his first two Champions League starts for the club.

Defenders:

In front of the inexperienced Kelleher, there is expected to be an inexperienced backline. Neco Williams has performed admirably during Trent Alexander-Aronold’s absence and will continue despite the England international coming on as a substitute against Wolves. From one Williams to another now as Rhys Williams is expected to make it a full house by appearing in every group game of this season’s competition. Alongside the 19-year-old is a new name to many with Billy Koumetio possibly set for a debut. The Frenchman is just 18 years of age but is highly-rated on Merseyside. at left-back, Andrew Robertson is expected to get a breather with summer signing Kostas Tsimikas set for his fourth appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

Midfielders:

Captain Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum started the win over Wolves but should not do so again on Wednesday with qualification assured. However, Curtis Jones, who also started that game, is expected to line up again for his 14th appearance of the season. The 19-year-old will be looking to bag his second Champions League goal in as many matches after netting the winner against Ajax last week. Elsewhere, with Thiago, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri all injured, Naby Keita should start, while Leighton Clarkson could make his Champions League debut. Elsewhere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a chance of featuring after returning to full training following a knee injury.

Forwards:

The superstar trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are expected to be rested for this match for the Premier League at the weekend. However, in-form Diogo Jota should start after only being a substitute against former club Wolves at the weekend. Alongside the Portuguese in attack is most likely to be Divock Origi, who has made just five appearances this term, and Takumi Minamino, who has yet to really flourish since his January transfer.

Predicted Liverpool XI vs FC Midtjylland: Kelleher; Williams, Williams, Koumetio, Tsimikas; Clarkson, Jones, Keita; Jota, Minamino, Origi
