Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be looking to add midfield reinforcements to his squad this summer.

Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all set to leave Anfield when their contracts expire at the end of the month and, although the Reds have signed Alexis Mac Allister, Klopp will be keen to complete further signings.

Mac Allister joined from Brighton and Hove Albion in a deal worth around £35 million, but it now appears that Liverpool are plotting a huge offer for a La Liga midfielder.

According to El Nacional via The Mail, the Merseyside outfit are plotting a £77 million bid for Real Madrid star Federico Valverde.

The report claims that Liverpool have been interested in Valverde for some time now and recently had a £51 million offer for the player rejected.

The Uruguay international joined Madrid’s youth side from Penarol back in 2016 and gradually established himself in the first team more recently.

In total, the 24-year-old has made 204 appearances for his current side across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 15 assists.

Valverde is said to be a target for Liverpool

During his time in Madrid, the midfielder has won a total of nine trophies including the Champions League and two La Liga titles.

Valverde made 56 appearances across all competitions last season, but his playing time may decrease following the arrival of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.

Current midfielders Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Dani Ceballos have also been handed new contracts, which could further limit Valverde’s playing time next season.

With that in mind, Liverpool are hoping to lure the Uruguayan away from the Spanish capital.

Valverde’s versatility would undoubtedly appeal to Klopp, with the player able to play in a number of roles including central midfield, winger or right-back.

Madrid are said to be wary of the significant amount of money that they spent on Bellingham and, with a deal for Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe potentially still to come, they could look to offload some of their current players this summer.
